Understanding Thanksgiving: A Reflection on Gratitude, Tradition, and Love
Thanksgiving holds a special place in many hearts, not only as a festive holiday but also as an opportunity to pause and appreciate life’s blessings. Its origins date back to the 17th century when the Pilgrims and Native Americans came together to share a meal, celebrating a successful harvest. This tradition of unity, gratitude, and celebration has evolved over time, yet its essence remains unchanged: recognizing the abundance in our lives and cherishing the relationships that sustain us.
The spirit of Thanksgiving is simple yet profound. It is about gratitude—not only for major achievements but also for the small joys: a kind word, a warm meal, the company of loved ones, and even the challenges that help us grow. “Some of the most meaningful things in life are those we often overlook. Gratitude allows us to see them clearly”, Morgan Housel.
In Costa Rica, a country that adopts many trends from the United States, I believe this is an activity worth integrating into our culture. Beyond being a mere celebration, Thanksgiving invites us to pause, reflect, and embrace a moment of deep love and gratitude toward God, who provides us with all that is good. It is an opportunity to gather with our families, give thanks for the blessings around us, and recognize that even amidst difficulties, His love sustains us.
To all who read this, whether you are spending the day with family, friends, or in peaceful solitude, know that you are valued. Thank you for being part of our journey, for your support, and for allowing us to do what we love: sharing knowledge, building community, and spreading inspiration.
Happy Thanksgiving! May this day remind us of the power of gratitude and the infinite love of God. Let us take a moment to savor the small yet meaningful moments of life.
